National Education Show 2007(Situational Composition)
We reached Marina Bay at about 3.15pm and reached the floating platform at around 3.45pm. Our seating area was far from the stage for we were sitting quite high up. Nevertheless, we still had a great view of the stage.
I sat together with my friends, Jie Qi and Jia Yi. We ate our food as soon as we had settled down for fear it would be too cold to be consumed later. However, we found that the food had tasted bland without any sauces, as it was stony cold by the time we ate it. Yuck.
The pre-parade was sort of ‘neglected’ for we did not join in. Well, not exactly. All we did was to chat, eat a snack or two and digging up our ‘fun-pack’ for stuff to amuse ourselves with. We only took part in cheering for the ‘boat-race’ [The group that we supported won!!!] and joining in the ‘Marina Wave’…
We rushed down to the restroom ten minutes before the ‘March-Past’ .The queue was extremely long and winding (!) so we were glad we went down early. Phew!
The march-past…it was interesting, and it was one of the rare times which I enjoyed one. In some of the previous years, it could be so boring that I could – well, nearly - fall asleep.
I enjoyed the part where Singapore “showed off” their weapons and fighting equipment. Partly because my dad said that Malaysia was always jealous and unhappy when Singapore does that. Yeah!
The concert…I nearly fell asleep in a few parts, but on the whole I felt it was good. I liked the fireworks best, simply because of the fact that they were MAGNIFICENT! GRAND! And they were also very beautiful…
We reached school at 10.30 pm and were pretty early. I walked home with my father, chattering non-stop. I was so glad to be a Singaporean. Happy Birthday Singapore!Labels: Composition 4

Everybody was seated down in the hall, waiting for the Teacher's Day concert to start . The teachers were all very excited and were chatting non-stop.
Janice walked stiffly in her dance costume to backstage. She was going to perform a dance with her friend, Lucinda. They had practised their dance for two months and they were very nervous. Lucinda claimed that she was feeling butterflies in her stomach.
The 'hostess' of the concert, Lizzy, quietened everybody down. "Please keep your voices down. For our very first item, we will be having a dance. Please welcome Janice Taylor and Lucinda Wong from class 5C."
Janice whispered to Lucinda, 'Good luck!" Lucinda nodded. They leapt onto the stage as soon as they heard the music. They cartwheeled gracefully and did amazing stunts like doing a somersault. Everybody applauded loudly. As the beat of the music changed, they leapt into the air and cartwheeled again. Lucinda cartwheeled a split second too late and accidentally knocked Janice down. Everyone fell silent. The two girls sat down on the stage , massaging the agonizing bump on thier heads. Many students pointed at them and started laughing. Some of the boys wolf-whistled and even the teachers started to laugh too. This was too much for Janice. She fought back her tears but to no avail. Hot, angry tears flowed down her cheeks.
Janice glared at Lucinda. ''Think of an idea to get us out of this mess for you caused it!''Lucinda nodded her head and Janice saw a grin play about her lips and she knew something funny was about to happen. Lucinda stood up.
''Let's hope you've enjoyed our show. You must have had a good laugh! Happy Teacher's Day to all teachers.'' Lucinda said politely. With that, she bowed, pulled Janice's hand and walked off, leaving the audience of eight hundred stunned. Everyone started to clap.
Outside, Janice smiled at Lucinda. ''Thanks!'' Lucinda smiled.''That's what friends are for.''Labels: Composition 3

The sun rose in a pool of crimson and gold, spilling light all over the land and the white clouds. The birds, having awoken, chirped merrily to signal the start of the day. I woke up at seven, rather excited, for my friends Jessie and Lisa would be going with me to Changi Beach for the day.
After breakfast, I had a shower and slipped on my clothes. I got already a bag of chocolates and boiled sweets and waited for my friends to come. Lisa arrived promptly at eight thirty, carrying a box of cookies with her. She came into my bedroom while waiting for Jessie, talking nineteen to the dozen . We chatted gaily, and soon forgot about the time.
''Girls?''Mum put her head round my door. ''Are you two staying for lunch? It's almost twelve." I looked at her."You mean, we've chatted for hours? Where's Jessie? Did she come?"
''There was no sign of Jessie. In fact, no one came since Jessie arrived.''Mum replied to me.
Just then, I felt Lisa poking my back.I turned to face her.''Yes?''
''Do you think something has cropped up at home?I mean Jessie." Lisa looked rather anxious."Shall we call her?"
I nodded and started dialling Jessie's number. A lady answered at the end of the line. "May I know who are you? I'm Jessie's Mother."
''Hi,I'm Callie,Jessie's friend. We have planned to meet today at my house to go to the beach." i paused. "has something cropped up?"
"dear, haven't you heard? my daughter fractured her right leg few weeks ago and she was admitted at Changi General Hospital." Mrs Tang replied. I felt my stomach contact. "is she recuperating at home? if not, can we go visit her?"
"she's not home. and of course you can visit her. sorry to have caused you so much trouble. Goodbye." she hung up, the phone. i turned to Lisa, who was sobbing bitterly. "she would be alright. it was spotted in time. come, we'll go visit her now."
when we reached the hospital, we asked for Jessie's ward and directions for it. a kind nurse took us as she was on the way there too. i heard from her that Jessie was about to attend to Jessie as well. That consoled Lisa fairly well, and she stopped sobbing.
Jessie's ward was on the third story so we had to go quite a long way. we reached the ward in ten minutes. the nurse opened the door. Lisa and I rushed to Jessie as soon as we saw her.
"Hello, Jessie. Are you alright now? I asked anxiously.
" i was scared stiff when I heard about the news!" Lisa agreed. "Here, I've got a box of cookies for you. And some boiled sweets that Callie contributed."
"thank you, " Lisa was smiling at us as she placed the snacks on the table."it was good of you to come. i missed you terribly, Lisa. And you too, Callie." Her eyes shone brightly.
The nurse that took us up came over with some food for Jessie. Jessie told us that she was her Auntie Janet who worked at Changi General Hospital. While Jessie was eating, we all talked and talked. Lisa told us some jokes and I " contributed" some riddles to cheer Jessie up. When we were about to leave, Jessie was about to cry. But we consoled her. When we were leaving the ward, we saw many patients that were really in bad condition. Nurse Janet told us that they had just been admitted or transferred from another ward. Before that , the ward was rather empty except for Jessie.
A Doctor was giving a man his medicine and a nurse was assisting him. he was from the stroke unit and was about to be discharged soon. Nurse Janet told us that he had suffered a stroke some time ago, and his medication taken right now was Wafarin .
A man with his whole head bandaged was in a wheelchair, with a young man assisting him. another man was limping towards ad elderly man reading a newspaper, with the help of crutches. He also had his head bandaged up and his feet plastered. they were involved with the same accident. Another nurse was speaking to a teenage boy, saying that he could be discharged that very day. we felt very very happy for him.
Suddenly, Nurse Janet turned to us. "Do you smell something?"
"no, except for ointment medication and antiseptic. " I answered.
That's right, " Nurse Janet nodded. " to be a doctor, you have to know more than this. So if you want to be a doctor, you have to study hard."
Lisa and I nodded.
Two days later, Jessie was discharged. Lisa and I went to see her off. We saw Mrs Tan thanking the doctors and nurses for looking after Jessie. I thought, it would be nice being a doctor and be able to save lives. " I would be a doctor when i grow up!" I made up my mind to study hard, enter medical school and become a doctor!

Amanda, Jasmine and Gladys were very excited as they would be going to England for three days and it was wintertime. They would be staying at Gladys' aunt's terrace house and her aunt would take them shopping and sightseeing for a total of three days!
On the day of their departure, they were so excited that they could not tie up their shoelaces! Even though Gladys had been to England to visit her aunt several times before, this might be her first encounter with snow! It would also be Amanda and Jasmine's first time on an aeroplane and all by themselves without their parents around too! They were led to the 'Raffles Class' section on the plane where a gentle-looking stewardess brought them some cushions and covers to ensure they were sitting comfortably. "Wow," Gladys thought drowsily, England, here we come!"
Gladys' aunt, Aunt Marie, met them at the airport in England. She had a pleasant smile on her face and greeted them warmly. A huge limousine waiting patiently at the car park was their means of transport back to the terrace house. It had been a long and tiring trip from Singapore to England and the time zones were all different. The trio was so tired that they were asleep within three shakes of a tail.
The very next morning, the girls were refreshed and full of energy. They ate a healthy and delicious breakfast of toast and eggs with runny yolk before Aunt Maria took them out. It had starting snowing since the week before they arrived and the lakes were all frozen stiff, ready to be skid on. The trio had practiced skiing before in ice rinks. They were glad to see the frozen waters. They fetched their skis and ran out of the house to the lake opposite it. Soon, they were shrieking happily, with smiles plastered on their faces.Seeing what fun they were having, Aunt Marie decided to join them.
Suddenly, a cold white-coloured thing hit Jasmine right on her face. It was snow! Gladys and Amanda shrieked with laughter and Jasmine declared, "This is war!" She gathered and handful of snow and flung it at Amanda. Amanda did not pause to counter-attack. Immediately, a series of seemingly hailstones rained on Jasmine's head. Soon, Gladys joined in the fun and the three girls threw snowballs at each other and made a gigantic snowman, which they named ‘Frosty the Snowman’! As it was nearing lunch lunchtime, Aunt Marie returned to the house to whip up a delicious lunch for the girls.
As the girls were playing joyfully, Aunt Marie appeared from the kitchen to inform them that lunch was hot and ready for them. The dripping and happy trio trooped into the kitchen, to find huge mugs of hot chocolate and freshly roasted chicken with green peas. As they set their eyes upon the delicious feast, their mouths started to water and they started devouring it.” Don’t gobble, you’ll choke!”Aunt Marie calmed the girls, smiling affectionately at them.
“After lunch, I’m going to bring you to the River Thames, “ Aunt Marie announced. She then smiled and waited for their response. After a moment of hushed silence, Amanda whooped with joy and the others followed suit. “All of you will want to bring your skies along! After all you may get a chance to ski on River Thames, or rather Ice Thames!” Aunt Marie finished. The girls could hardly believe their ears as they heard the delightful news. All they could do was to thank Aunt Marie repeatedly.
They had a wonderful afternoon at The Thames – they had so much fun; they had completely forgotten about the time! In fact, they were in the middle of their eighth snowball fight when Aunt Marie reminded them that it was time to go. They stopped at a Western Food store on their way back where they had a plate of fish and chips each.
As night fell, the trio and Aunt Marie sighed contently as they made their way home. As they reached their lodging, Jasmine said dreamily,’’ this is the best day I’ve ever had!’’ The others nodded in silent agreement. They headed for their rooms and fell asleep as soon as their heads touched their pillows, snoring peacefully.
As morning arrived, the pale sunlight was spilt across the girls’ room. The girls awoke from their slumber, rubbing their eyes sleepily and yawning. “I wish I hadn’t skied so much yesterday!” Gladys groaned ruefully, massaging her aching muscles. They marched into the kitchen, where Aunt Marie announced ,“I have planned the activities for today. I’ m taking you to the shopping mall to shop after breakfast!” The girls perked up immediately. Hurriedly, they finished their breakfasts and set off with Aunt Marie in her blue limousine.
First they visited Harrods , a brand famous for teddies and big shopping bags, where Gladys fell in love with a gigantic bear. It was soft and cuddly, and nice to feel. Aunt Marie gave her the permission to buy it. Then, Aunt Marie bought six adorable mini-sized bears, two for each of the girls. They were so pleased and they hugged Aunt Marie happily. As lunch time arrived, Aunt Marie treated the girls to a posh French restaurant, where they ordered lots and lots of French food. Even Amanda, who was a very picky eater, declared it was the best meal she ever had. After everybody was full, they went round the shops to buy souvenirs like bookmarks, pens, books, toys and even a few bottles of wine to give away to their respective family members and friends. They had a great time selecting the gifts. Then, Aunt Marie brought them to visit Big Ben, the most famous clock in the whole world. The girls stared in awe at it, admiring the skilful carvings and engravings on it. After sightseeing, they went home for dinner, and soon snuggled cosily in their beds.
The next day was the last day of their visit, as usual, they ate their breakfasts cheerfully, and then decided to make an igloo and snow angels. They pulled on their coats and hurried outside to attempt making an igloo. Their first attempt was a huge failure! They could not manage to get the snow to pack tightly together and therefore, it kept sliding apart. The girls were very disappointed . Still, they cheered up as the snow angels were a great success .The girls collected stones and sticks to decorate their snow angels. When Aunt Marie came out to tell them that lunch
would be ready in two hours time, Gladys asked her to name the snow angels. They had a great time laughing at the funny and silly names that they gave to the snow angels. After Aunt Marie went back in, they began tobogganing and skied on the ice. They were determined to play as much as they could before leaving England.
They panted heavily when they came in, exhausted from their morning activities. As they sat down to enjoy the delicious spread of food prepared by Aunt Marie for them, Aunt Marie presented them with a purple silken bag. Curious, Amanda peeped inside the bag. She was surprised to find that the bag was filled with a variety of candies and a small teddy with their names embroidered on it. Aunt Marie smiled. ‘‘It’s just a small gift for you.’’ She smiled generously. The girls were surprised and pleased; and they chorused, ‘‘thank you’’.
After lunch, aunt Marie brought them to the airport in time to catch the flight back to Singapore. ‘‘Goodbye!’’ They bade a cheerful farewell to Aunt Marie. Aunt Marie waved to them and replied, ‘‘Hope that I’ll see you all soon. Have a safe journey!’’
Soon, they were on the aeroplane back home, back to their island home, Singapore!
